Overview

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the City of San Marcos are working together to conduct the San Marcos Transportation Corridors Study. The study will produce a series of strategies to address anticipated growth and development within key transportation corridors and activity centers in the community.

Study recommendations will seek to address:

  • Increasing transportation options by developing corridors that support walking, biking, and transit.
  • Improving local and regional travel connectivity.
  • Protecting the character and environment of San Marcos
  • Transforming transportation corridors and activity centers into mixed-use vibrant places.
  • Increasing access to a wider range of housing, jobs, shopping, public services, and recreation

Study need:

San Marcos and the surrounding areas are growing rapidly and need to plan in ways that promote sustainable, equitable growth and provide multimodal transportation options in the future.

NOTE: The city will be responsible for moving forward with recommendations beyond the Report phase and securing funding.

CENTERS AND CORRIDORS

The study has two main focus areas. The corridors portion of the study will generate potential transportation concepts and strategies for three main transportation corridors in the San Marcos area. The centers portion of the study will examine three locations for mixed-use development opportunities where housing, jobs, and services can be in close proximity to high-quality transportation choices and connections.
